Special Assignments for the start of the school year

This document is a Reading List for additional articles and handouts that are on my website that are additional to the lessons that will be used in class. It is strongly recommended that you complete these readings for each unit that we cover as they will help you better understand the class lessons. The best suggestion is to complete them as homework assignments as we go through each unit.

Map Reading is essential to a complete understanding of the course. Below are three important links that are a crucial course requirements. My World Maps Assignment covers the main countries within five global regions. I strongly urge every student to complete all of these maps and know where the countries are situated as they are an integral part of the curriculum. For those who struggle with maps, and that includes 99% of the average students, I strongly suggest that the next time that you have a few minutes to spare, open the following links and take these map challenges. The first is
https://online.seterra.com/en/vgp/3007  and then try www.sporcle.com/games/tags/map

A very useful map for you to know is found at this link as it shows the major areas of Asia and the main countries in these regions. The CollegeBoard questions will ask questions just using the main regions of Asia so I strongly suggest that you learn this map.

Other relevant documents that are special assignments that will be used during the school year are shown below.

A very important document that will help you during the entire school year is the AP World History Modern CED Timeline that I created as I will be transitioning from one region to another during the same time period. By having this handout, you will be able to follow along and understand how history links within the units.

This short presentation covers the  SAQ - Short Answer Question and discusses how it tests one's knowledge and how best to answer the SAQ questions.

Essay Writing Strategies, Tips, and Techniques

For the School year 2023/2024, the College Board has amended the rubrics. I will be updating both the DBQ and the LEQ essay rubrics during the year. For now, the attached is a typed copy of the new DBQ Rubric for the 2023/24 school year.

The Document-Based Essay Question is a key part to the AP examination and the following handout  covers in details specific APWH DBQ Strategies and Planning essentials for effectively completing this portion of the Free-Response Questions.

Perhaps the hardest part of the AP essay is covered in this document which contains essay instructions for the requirements on : Context and Contextualization

In addition this short handout covers Transition Words that will help the essay vocabulary.
The next document that will help any student obtain a high score on an essay is by using Thesis Statement worksheet

The linked handout will greatly help a student with their essay writing skills as it plans using the  Cause and Effect essay worksheet

Other important test-taking skills that will covered during the year
Primary and Secondary Source Analysis worksheet
The Multiple Choice Analysis worksheet

Review Books: Q & A 600, Princeton Review 2024.
